Pack to Compete at NCAA Southeast Regional

RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC State men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship meet on Friday. The No. 2 nationally-ranked women will run a 6k course while the No. 27 men's team will move up to a 10k format. Last year, the women's team finished in second place behind Virginia while the men finished fifth.
Last Time Out:
Two weeks ago, the women's team clinched its 22nd ACC Championship title, adding six All-ACC honorees to its record books in the process. Rachel Koon led the host of runners, finishing in fourth place overall. On the men's side, Sam Parsons' third place individual finish helped secure the Wolfpack's third place team standing.
On The Hunt:
With eyes set on qualifying for the NCAA Championships, both programs will look to finish in the region's top two in order to receive an automatic bid to the national championships. A total of 31 teams nation-wide will compete next week in the NCAA D-1 Championships, 18 of which will qualify during their regional competitions. Teams can also receive one of 13 at-large bids decided by the team's in-season results. After team selections have been made, 40 individuals will additionally be selected to complete the nationals meet's roster.
PACKing Up:
In order to earn a trip to nationals, both programs' top five runners will need to score among the top of the competition to secure a high team finish. Top 25 runners from each race will also earn All-Region honors.
Women's lineup: Ryen Frazier, Elly Henes, Erika Kemp, Megan Moye, Rachel Koon, Alyssa Rudawsky and Kaitlyn Kramer
Men's lineup: Seven from the 10-man ACC roster will compete on Friday, although the final lineup will be a race-time decision.
The Competition:
Schools from North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky will gather on Friday to make up the Southeast region. The women's team currently leads the Southeast Regional with William and Mary, Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky and Virginia Tech rounding out the rest of the region's top five. The men's team sits in the second rank regionally, trailing behind Virginia. Virginia Tech, Kentucky and Furman represent the rest of the men's top five.
