RALEIGH – In partnership with and at the request of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, NC State Athletics announced today that the annual Hoops 4 Hope game to raise awareness and funds for the fight against women's cancers will officially be renamed Play4Kay. The new name aligns with what has become a nationwide fundraising initiative for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund at universities and high schools across the country. Coach Kay Yow started the movement by leading the creation of NC State's Hoops 4 Hope game in 2006.
Â
"NC State is the national Play4Kay model that represents Coach Kay Yow's vision when she created the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in December 2007," said Stephanie Glance, Executive Director of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. "As we continue to elevate the Play4Kay initiative nationally, it is only fitting that NC State adopt the Play4Kay name. We are grateful that NC State women's basketball will continue to lead the way."
Â
The 2016-17 season will feature the 12th cancer awareness game for the Wolfpack women's basketball program. The annual event is scheduled for Sunday, February 19, 2017, against Atlantic Coast Conference rival Wake Forest, will be played in the newly renovated Reynolds Coliseum, and televised live on ESPNU. NC State's 2017 Play4Kay game will fall within the Feb. 10-20 Play4Kay Week during which schools are encouraged to host their annual cancer awareness games. Throughout the 11 previous games in Raleigh, the NC State community, Wolfpack supporters, and cancer survivors have combined to raise approximately $500,000 in donations to this worthy cause.
