Wolfpack looking for conference weekend sweep on the road

RALEIGH, N.C. – After defeating the defending Atlantic Coast Conference Champion Louisville Thursday night, the NC State volleyball team will turn its attention towards a road matchup at Notre Dame. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon inside Purcell Pavilion.

The match will be broadcast live on the ACC Network Extra, accessible through accessible through Watch ESPN and the Watch ESPN App.

NC State enters the matchup with a 11-8 overall record and a 4-3 clip in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, while Notre Dame has been enjoying a strong season at 15-4 overall and 6-1 in conference action.

Last Time Out
In its last outing, the Wolfpack used a strong effort to earn its third ACC road win at Louisville in straight sets, 3-0. NC State rallied from an eight point deficit in the third set to secure the win and the sweep.

Series History
NC State and Louisville have met five times in the history of the programs with the Wolfpack winning all three matchups as conference opponents to own a 3-2 mark in the all-time series. Last year, Notre Dame won the first two sets of the contest held in the Raleigh, but NC State roared back to earn the five-set victory in the lone meeting.

Scouting Notre Dame
Notre Dame heads into Sunday's matchup with one of the top records in the ACC, as the Fighting Irish are currently tied for second in the conference. The Irish dropped a hard-fought battle against No. 8 UNC Chapel-Hill, 3-2, in their most recent outing on Friday.

Freshman outside hitter Jemma Yeadon leads the team offensively with 2.95 kills per set, while junior middle blocker Sam Fry is second on the squad with 2.72 kps. Setter Caroline Holt has dished out 10.93 assists per set to lead the ACC. Defensively, Ryann DeJarld ranks third in the conference with 4.72 digs per set.

As a team, Notre Dame has an attacking percentage of .221 and opponents have compiled a .187 clip.

PAC 12 Ties
Both team's head coaches were in the Pacific 12 (PAC 12) Conference before assuming their respective head coaching positions in the ACC. NC State's Linda Hampton-Keith was an associate head coach at Arizona State, while Notre Dame's Jim McLaughlin served as the head coach at Washington prior to joining the Irish.

Battle of ACC's Top Setters
Two of the conference's top setters will face off Sunday afternoon, as the Wolfpack's Maggie Speaks is second in the ACC with 10.75 assists per set and Notre Dame's Caroline Holt leads the league with 10.93.

Leading The Way
NC State leads the ACC with 12.96 assists per set, which ranks 42^nd in the NCAA among division I programs. In addition, the Wolfpack has dished out the second-most total assists in the league this season with 907.

Junior Julia Brown is first in the ACC with 11.67 attacks per set and tops the column in total attacks this year with 805.

Lucky Number Two
NC State has won the second set in 13 of its 19 matches this season. The Wolfpack has scored 445 points in the frame, the most in any set in 2016, and has allowed 377 points, the largest margin in a set.

The Pack has won the second set in 10 of its 11 wins in 2016.

Tale of the Tape
The Wolfpack has posted a 8-1 record this season when recording more blocks than its opponent. In contrast, NC State has lost seven of nine matches when being out-blocked and is 1-0 when blocks are equal.

The Higher, The Better
NC State has tallied more kills than its opponent in all 11 wins this season. The Pack has lost just three matches when recording more kills.

In addition, NCSU's hitting percentage has been higher than opponents in 10 of its 11 victories.
