RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team is set for the 2016 ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Cary Tennis Park. The tournament will start Friday and run through Tuesday. Players from schools in North Carolina and South Carolina will send athletes to compete regionally for a shot at advancing to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in November.
NC State has posted recent success in the tournament, winning the doubles title the last two years and advancing to the doubles finals in three straight seasons.
The Wolfpack will look to have another successful tournament, as most of the team will play in the regional competition.
Nick Horton is the only returnee to have played in the event. Last year he had an impressive tournament, advancing to the round of 16 in singles play and winning the doubles title.
The senior will return for his last attempt at the tournament, while a host of Wolfpackers will compete in the tournament for the first time.
Season Debuts:
Ivan Saveljic, Chris Mikrovas and Alexis Galarneau are all set to make their season debuts for the Wolfpack. It will also be a career debut for Galarneau.
Last Time Out:
Horton went 2-2 at the ITA All-American Championships last weekend. He defeated his first ranked opponent of the season at the tournament.
Before Horton began his season, Michael Ogden, Georgiy Malyshev, Sean Burnette and Igor Saveljic all opened their seasons at the Duke James Bonk Invitational earlier in the year.
