Wolfpack Soccer Remains Unbeaten, Drops Liberty 2-0

Caleb Duvernay and Tanner Roberts contributed the first goals of their collegiate careers in Alex McCauley's second shutout of the season
NC State men's soccer utterly dominated on Friday night at Liberty, allowing just one shot in a 2-0 win to remain unbeaten and untied in 2015.
"We're off to great start, but only as good as our next game," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "It's about how we finish. We'll look forward to recovering and preparing for Monday."
The Wolfpack (3-0) waited seven minutes for Caleb Duvernay's rocket from 25 yards to find the corner of the Flames (1-2) net. Duvernay unloaded on a rebound of a Julius Duchscherer free kick headed out by the Liberty defense. His first collegiate score put the Pack ahead 1-0.
"It was a great strike from Caleb," said Findley. "We'd seen him do it before in club, and we're thrilled not only for him to get that goal, but for our team. He was in the right place, struck it well, the discipline he showed was tremendous."
In the 51st minute, Tanner Roberts redirected a Yanni Hachem cross along the end line to cement the 2-0 win. Hachem hustled after a long ball played up the right side before connecting with the freshman for a glancing header inside the right post.
"The second goal we had a good run in behind," said Findley, "and excellent delivery on a cross that Tanner could finish. Even coming in as a recruit we knew he was capable of that level of individual quality."
Alex McCauley collected his second clean sheet in a row and eighth of his career facing one shot and none on goal. NC State controlled possession much of the match, with the defense facing few harrowing moments.
"We're having quality possessions that don't allow our opponents many opportunities," said Findley. "We're keeping the ball, seeing a lot of transition all over the field, and we've got good senior leadership."
Wolfpack soccer returns to action Monday at Davidson for a 7 PM kickoff.
