No. 22 NC State men's soccer stood toe-to-toe with No. 24 Louisville for 110 minutes on the Cardinals home turf Friday night, earning a 1-1 (2OT) road draw on Philip Carmon's equalizer in the 44th minute, assisted by Simon Blotko.
"We had a great team effort," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "We won in every statistical category in a tough place to play. I was pleased with our play, our attitude, and our effort. We had key contributions from players like Philip, a fifth-year senior getting the goal, and Michael Hinkson playing a great match in his first college start."
Carmon's first goal of the year represented the fourth of his career, and supplied a critical momentum swing after the Wolfpack (6-2-1, 1-1-1 ACC) fell behind 1-0 in the 43rd minute after Louisville (4-2-2, 0-0-2) headed home a corner.
Blotko worked his way up the right sideline before swinging a centering pass to Carmon, who headed home the chance to the left half of the Cardinal goal. The assist marked Blotko's third of the season.
NC State outshot the Cards 9-8, landing a 4-3 advantage on goal. Alex McCauley made a pair of saves, each massive in the effort to preserve a tie. The Pack's luck changed from a week ago concerning fouls, committing 10 to the home team's 17.
"We're only as good as our next game," said Findley. "Our players will be ready, our staff will be ready, and we look forward to facing a strong Coastal Carolina team on Wednesday."
The Wolfpack returns to action on Wednesday, September 30 at No. 7 Coastal Carolina. Kickoff set for 7 PM. Links to coverage will be available on the GoPack.com schedule page as they're made available.
