NC State women's golf tees off the 2015-16 team with perhaps the deepest team it's ever had. Head coach Page Marsh will take a lineup with three new faces to the Cougar Classic, hosted by College of Charleston at Yeaman's Hall Club. The new-look Pack has nine players, including four freshmen and a transfer.
Senior Rachael Taylor, the team's leading scorer last season, returns along with Cecily Overbey, Stephanie Pribonic and Crystal Huang. Taylor and Overbey will be in the lineup this weekend along with freshmen Naomi Ko and India Clyburn and High Point transfer Sarah Bae. Freshman Leonie Bettel will compete as an individual.
This year's Cougar Classic features 10 teams in the current GolfWeek top 50. The 20-team field also features ACC foes Clemson, Virginia, Wake Forest and UNC-Chapel Hill.
The Cougar Classic has been the team's opening event each season since 2003, and it's been the site for some of the team's top performances. Four of the top eight 54-hole tournament performances in school history have come at Yeaman's Hall. Two years ago, the Wolfpack placed fourth and shot 863, good for the third-lowest 54-hole in NC State history.
Following play at the Cougar Classic, the Wolfpack will play Sept. 20-22 at the Mercedes Women's Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn.
