Wolfpack men's soccer scored a win behind Alex McCauley's seventh career shutout
NC State freshman Julius Duchscherer netted his first collegiate goal, and Yanni Hachem converted a second half penalty kick, as Wolfpack men's soccer improved to 2-0 on the seventh clean sheet of Alex McCauley's career.
"The effort and commitment to accomplish our goal as a group was fantastic," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "Anytime we see that kind of determination, pace, and work rate, they'll be difficult to play against, and I thought we saw a little bit of that tonight."
The newcomer from Germany, Duchscherer led the Wolfpack (2-0) charge firing six shots on the night, finding the back of the net in the 41st minute on an assist from fellow Deutschlander Simon Blotko, who kept a loose ball in play along the sideline of the Charleston (1-0) zone. Duchscherer's quick strike to the right half put the Pack ahead for good.
In the 61st minute, Philip Carmon drew a foul in the box after being undercut by the Cougar's keeper. Hachem stepped up for the penalty kick and delivered his fifth career goal to assure the win.
McCauley needed just one save to collect his first shutout of the season, on a night the Pack outshot Charleston 16-4 with nine on target.
"We've only conceded one goal with that back four playing in three games, including the preseason," said Findley. "It's a good group, it's always a positive to have great experience across the back."
