State Starters: Safeties and Nickels

RALEIGH, N.C. - With just eight days left until NC State's season opener versus Troy, the depth chart is beginning to take shape. For the next several days, we'll be releasing the depth chart position by position.
SAFETIES and NICKELS
Some of the hardest hitters on the team will man the safety and nickel spots in the season opener. Â
Graduate student Hakim Jones is a veteran of 38 career games and led the Pack in tackles at free safety a year ago. Germaine Pratt is a hard-hitting sophomore who started one game during his rookie campaign and should see frequent action.
Another Jones mans the strong safety position, as hard-hitting RS-Sophomore Josh Jones will return for his second campaign as a starter.  Shawn Boone earned experience on special teams in 2014, ranking second on the team in ST tackles. Look for him to see more action from scrimmage this season.
Dravious Wright is back for his junior campaign and is another physical player at nickel. He started 11 games last season. True freshman Freddie Phillips, Jr. had a solid spring practice and fall camp and is the backup at nickel.
