RALEIGH – Three NC State men's golfers will represent the Wolfpack at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Championship beginning on August 17. Senior David Cooke, junior Stanhope Johnson, and incoming freshman Stephen Franken will compete in the tournament at Olympia Fields Country Club just outside of Chicago.
Â
"It's really special to play in a USGA event," NC State head coach Richard Sykes said. "This is the very top event and the qualification is very hard. The fact that they were all able to get that done speaks a lot about the level of their game and how much better I think we're going to be as a team heading into this next season."
Â
Stroke play rounds will begin on the morning of Monday, Aug. 17 and will continue through Tuesday afternoon. Following this part of the competition, the top 64 golfers will advance to match play on Wednesday. Advancing golfers will continue through Sunday, when the 36-hole championship final takes place in match-play format.
Â
During the 2014-15 season, NC State qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the seventh time in eight years. The Wolfpack will tee off the 2015-16 season on Friday, September 11 at the Kiawah (S.C.) Invitational.
