RALEIGH, N.C. - Recently, GoPack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Amanda Rebol, one of five players to join the NC State women' tennis program this fall, to get to know more about who she is.
Rebol, who will arrive in Raleigh from Cumming, Ga., checks in at No. 7 among her recruiting class in Georgia, and has been ranked as high as No. 59 among her class in the 2015 national rankings.
She finished the 2014 season listed at No. 11 in the USTA Girls' 18's Southern Section, as her ranking was highlighted by her contribution to team Georgia's win for the Southern Cup team championship title in September.
In 2013, Rebol won the singles and doubles competition in the USTA Girls' 16's Georgia Closed Championships, and was a finalist in singles and doubles play at the USTA Girls' 16's Southern Closed Championships. Additionally, she was one of four girls to compete for the southern section in the Intersectional Team Championships.
Why she chose NC State: "I chose NC State because it is the perfect fit for me on and off the tennis court. It's an added bonus that I am only five and a half hours from home as well!"
What she is most excited for about college: "I am extremely excited to grow on the court and in the classroom with the three other incoming freshman for the next four years."
An athlete she idolized growing up: "I've always idolized Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova for their constant determination and fight. Sharapova and Nadal have both battled many injuries, but their focus on wanting to be the best has never wavered."
Her preference between singles and doubles: "I can't say I prefer one over the other. In singles, it is just you out there- you problem solve and make decisions on your own. In doubles, you have someone on the same side of the court as you fighting for each point. I really enjoy them both!"
How she got into playing tennis: "My parents played when I was growing up so I was always around the sport, but I didn't start playing competitively until I was about 12.
Her favorite thing about tennis: "My favorite thing about tennis is the competitive nature of the sport."
Her goals and aspirations at NC State on and off the court: "My goals in the classroom are to excel in the major of my choice. As far as on court, I want to continue improving, assist in improving the team's national ranking and grow with the new group of girls we have!"
Her favorite place to visit: "My favorite place to visit is California. It's a different type of lifestyle on the west coast and I love it! I could definitely see myself living out there at some point in my life."
