Mumma, Nevalainen Conclude Competition at World University Games

Mumma finished eighth overall in the one-meter competition
GWANGJU CITY, South Korea- Rachel Mumma and Lotta Nevalainen of the NC State women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition Thursday at the 2015 World University Games, held in Gwangju City, South Korea.
For Mumma, a member of the United States' diving team, represented her country and the Wolfpack quite well on foreign soil. She finished third in the preliminary round of the one-meter dive with a score of 261.70 to advance to the semifinal session, where she finished second in her heat with a mark of 249.15.Â
The Harrisburg, Pa., native finished eighth in the finals of the competition with a score of 218.50. She was the only member of team USA to advance to the one-meter finals.Â
For Nevalainen, who represented her native country of Finland, competed in four events, respectively, at this year's championship.
In the 50m freestyle the Imatra, Finland, native won her heat with a time of 26.18 while she finished second in her preliminary heat of the 100m backstroke with a mark of 1:06.22.Â
Nevalainen also competed in the 100m free where she finished fourth in her preliminary heat with a time of 57.50, while she finished fifth in her heat of the 50m back with a mark of 30.34.
Both athletes will now return to the United States to prepare for the program's upcoming season.
