CHICAGO -- NC State softball signee Brittany Nimmo has been named the 2014-15 Gatorade Missouri Player of the Year, announced by The Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA Today High School Sports.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. By earning the state player of the year honor, Nimmo becomes a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year that will be announced later this month.
Nimmo hails from Ozark, Mo., and played her prep career at Ozark High School -- becoming the first player to be chosen Gatorade Missouri Player of the Year from the program. She led her high school team to a 27-4 record and a berth in the Class 4 quarterfinals last season.
As a pitcher for the squad, Nimmo recorded a 26-4 mark in the circle to go along with a miniscule 0.86 earned run average (ERA). Not only did she have success on the mound, but also at the plate as she compiled a batting average of .425 with nine home runs and 38 runs batted in (RBI).
"We're very excited for Brittany to win this award," said head coach Shawn Rychcik. "It's a great honor for her and her family.  We're looking forward to her contributions here at NC State. We're getting a great athlete that will help us on the field, in the batters box and on the mound."
She garnered first team all-state honors following her senior season, in which she struck out 284 batters in 162.2 innings pitched. The 5-foot-9 right-hander was also named first team all-state as a sophomore and claimed second team all-state honors as a junior in high school.
Nimmo's phenomenal senior campaign saw her tabbed the conference's Most Valuable Player (MVP), first team all-conference, first team all-district, first team all-region and first team all-area.
In addition to her accolades on the field, she collected first team academic all-state honors in each of her four years at Ozark with a weighted grade point average (GPA) of 4.48.
The highly-touted standout will enroll at NC State in the fall and be a freshman on the 2016 Wolfpack softball squad.
