Wolfpack players claim first scholar-athlete mentions
GREENSBORO, N.C.- Elisha Hande and Taylor Zaytoun of the NC State women's tennis team have been named to the 2015 women's tennis All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
For both players, this marks the first time each has received the honor. They were recognized this spring as two of NC State's top ten scholar-athletes for the 2014-15 academic year, boasting 4.0 cumulative GPAs.
Hande, a Cheltenham, England native, graduated in May with an economics major and a minor in German.
A four-year starter for the Pack, Hande finished her career with 38 doubles wins, which ranks as the ninth-highest career total in program history. Her senior campaign was highlighted by a singles win over No. 67 Linn Timmermann of Georgia State and a doubles win with teammate Joanna Nalborksa over the 41st-ranked pair of Rasheeda McAdoo and Alexis Prokopuik of Georgia Tech.
Hande also helped her team clinch a 4-3 win over Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Championship.
Zaytoun, a rising senior from Raleigh, N.C., is majoring in fashion and textile management with a concentration in brand management and marketing.
On the court during the 2014-15 season, Zaytoun saw action in four tournaments during the fall, and played in the doubles and singles lineups in the Pack's home match versus Charlotte in the spring.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
