RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, Gopack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Kayla Grim from the women's swimming and diving team to get to know more about who she is.
A native of Allentown, Pa., Grim is a mechanical engineering major. She was a team captain for the 2013-14 season, and posted the fifth-best times on the women's side in the 200 and 400 individual medleys as a sophomore. Grim also posted the third-fastest time in the 200 backstroke and the fifth-fastest time in the 200 IM as a freshman.
Her favorite part about being a member of the NC State swimming and diving team: "The friends I have made on this team are by far the best part of being a part of the Pack."
Her favorite meet she has swum in at NC State: "ACCs my freshman year because this was the first time that other teams started to realize that there was a huge change that NC State was going to make in the swimming world. It has been so much fun to see our team grow more and more from that point every year."
Her plans after graduating from NC State: "I plan on working for some type of manufacturing company as a design engineer- possibly automotive design."
If she could trade places with someone for one day: "Jennifer Aniston, but just one day...I'm not sure I could handle being a celebrity!"
If she could play another sport at NC State: "Probably track and field. I always wanted to be a pole vaulter, but I was definitely not made for sports that are played on land."
Her best memory from college: "Just being a part of the swimming and diving team at NC State will be something that I cherish forever. There are countless memories that I could label as, 'the best,' but they all start with the people that I swam with on this team."
Someone among her family/friends that inspires her: "My grandpa. He has always done everything possible to be at as many swim meets as he could. He was the one that quietly watched during the race but as soon as the roar would settle once my race was over, I knew I would hear his booming voice say, 'Way to go, Kayla!' And of course, since he was a swim coach himself, I always heard about how my turns were too slow after the meet."
Her favorite event to compete in: "200 IM."
An athlete she idolized growing up: "Amanda Beard."
How she wants to be remembered after she leaves NC State: "I hope people remember me as a leader, as well as someone who is humble and who never gave up when faced with challenges."
