BOONE, N.C. -- Senior pitcher Emily Weiman silenced the Appalachian State bats to record her third career no-hitter and the NC State Softball team put up 20 runs on the day to sweep the doubleheader at Sywassink/Lloyd Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Wolfpack shut out the Mountaineers in game one, 10-0, and scored 10 more runs in the second game to win it, 10-1.
NC State concludes the regular season with a 34-19 record on the year, while Appalachian State concludes its season at 14-35. The Wolfpack will return to action on Thursday, May 7, at the ACC Championship hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. NC State will be the fifth seed in the event and play Louisville, the four seed, at 1:30 p.m. in a contest that will air live on Regional Sports Networks (RSN).
Weiman struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to put the finishing touches on her third no-hitter of her career, as the game was stopped after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. The Pasadena, Md., native fanned seven batters in the contest, induced six groundouts and only walked one batter.
It was the second no-hitter of the season for the Wolfpack pitching staff, as sophomore Courtney Mirabella threw the first no-hitter of the year against Dayton on Feb. 20.
