RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, Gopack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Nicole Haynes from the women's swimming and diving team to get to know more about who she is.
A senior from Nokesville, Va., she will graduate in May with a major in criminology and a minor in political science. She was a captain for the 2014-15 season, and owns two all-time top-10 marks among the women's program.
Why she chose NC State: "I chose NC State because of the excellence of the academics and athletics. During my recruiting trip, NC State felt like home and the people I met were so welcoming."
How she got into swimming: "I started swimming when I was six years old. A teacher at my school recommended a summer league team to my family and I stayed on that team for 12 years."
Someone among her family and friends that inspires her: "My parents inspire me the most. They are the most loving and caring people I have ever met. They both work so hard and have given me unconditional support and love. They are my best friends and the best role models a girl could have."
Her plans after graduation: "I plan to attend graduate school after graduation. I would like to earn a Masters of Public Administration."
Her favorite memory at NC State: "I don't think I can choose one favorite memory throughout my four years at NC State. However, my favorite memories all involve my amazing friends that have made this experience so incredible."
Her favorite meet she competed in at NC State: "My favorite meet I have swam in was against Virginia Tech my junior year. We had not beat Virginia Tech in a long time and it was amazing to see all of our teammates come together."
Someone on the team that motivates her to work her hardest: "My coach motivates me to work the hardest. He has worked with me for four years and he is a large reason for my success in the sport."
Her favorite event to compete in: "My favorite event to compete in is the 200 backstroke. During my college career I learned a lot about how to swim that race and I grew to love it."
How she wants to be remembered by others after she graduates: "I would like people at NC State to remember me for being a good teammate, person and friend."
Her favorite place to visit: "My favorite place to visit is home to see my family."
