Wolfpack Drops 14 Strokes Saturday at ACC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.C. -- Led by two impressive rounds of 71 from Carter Page and David Cooke, the NC State men's golf team improved its standing at the ACC Championship on Saturday afternoon. Entering the day in a tie for 10th place, the Wolfpack cut 14 strokes from its Friday score to move up to ninth.
Through two rounds at the Old North State Club, the Wolfpack has shot a score of 592 (+16). In ninth place, NC State is four strokes ahead of Duke and eight behind eighth-place Wake Forest.

ACROSS THE BOARD
All five Wolfpack golfers improved their scores on Saturday. Carter Simon (12 stroke improvement), Stanhope Johnson (7), James Chapman (3), Cooke (3), and Page (1) each showed noticeable improvement their second time through the Old North State Club.
FINISHING STRONG
Staring at a round of five over par heading into the 14th hole, redshirt senior James Chapman finished strong in the second round. The Gastonia, N.C., native recorded three pars and two birdies over the final five holes to finish with a 75 (+3).
THREE IS KEY
Three NC State golfers--Cooke, Johnson, and Page--are averaging 2.88 strokes per par three hole at the ACC Championship. Only one golfer at the tournament is completing par-three holes at a better rate.
Tee times for the third round of the competition will begin Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. The Wolfpack will be paired with Wake Forest and Louisville.
