Pack Drops ACC Championship Opener to Seminoles, 4-2

CARY, N.C. -- The ninth-seeded NC State men's tennis team dropped its Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship opener to eighth-seeded Florida State, 4-2. The Wolfpack falls to 17-11 (5-7 ACC) on the season, while Florida State move to 19-9 (6-6 ACC).
Match Recap:
Florida State took the doubles point after taking two of the doubles matches in tiebreakers. Ian Dempster and Thomas Weigel took the first doubles match on Court two, 8-5. However, the Seminoles rallied on courts one and three to win both of the remaining matches in tie breakers.
In singles play, the Pack jumped out to an advantage on five of the six courts.
Beck Bond was the first to finish his singles match as he continued his hot streak. The senior defeated Florida State's No. 108 Michael Rinaldi, 6-3, 6-1. Bond earned his 10th win in a row a 17 of the dual season. The senior only has one loss against ACC competition.
Nick Horton took the lead back for the Pack in a dominating, 6-3, 6-3, victory over Terrance Whitehurst. Horton has now won 14 matches this dual season.
The teams continued to trade blows as Florida State picked up its second point to level the match after Thomas Weigel dropped his third-set tiebreaker to Jose Gracia. Weigel's undefeated run ended at a combined 19 singles and doubles matches.
Shoti Meparidze would also fall in a third set tiebreaker as the Seminoles took a, 3-2, lead in the match. Seniors Austin Powell and Robbie Mudge were forced into must-win matches deep into their third sets.
Florida State clinched the match on court three as Austin Powell was edged out in the tiebreaker. 
Mudge's match was suspended in the third-set.
