GREENSBORO - Cecily Overbey is 2-under par to lead the NC State women's golf team at the halfway point of the ACC Women's Golf Championship.
Due to impending inclement weather, the tournament format changed to 27 holes over two days. Overbey shot a 3-under 69 over her first 18 holes and was 1-over during the last nine holes of the day. The career day for Overbey ended with her tied for sixth in the 55-player field.
"It was great to see Cecily's hard work pay off," head coach Page Marsh said. "She has really put in the effort this year and has changed many aspects of her game from mindset to short game shots to course strategy and approach shots.
Rachael Taylor (+4) is tied for 32nd and Lindsay McGetrick (+6) for 41st. Vivian Tsui (+7) and Stephanie Pribonic (+9) rounded out the Wolfpack lineup.
"Stephanie played in her first ACC (tournament) and learned a great deal between nines and put together her best nine holes at the end of the day," Marsh said.
As a team, NC State is 10th in the standings. The Wolfpack trails Clemson by seven shots for seventh place. Virginia leads the field, holding a seven-shot edge over Wake Forest. Duke's Leona Maguire (-6) is the individual leader.
"There are 27 holes still to play," Marsh said. "I think everyone had a great start today and we need to sustain that Saturday and play smart rather than disappointed when a few things go differently than desired. It's all about finding your own way to your personal best."
The ACC Women's Golf Championship's final day begins Saturday morning at 11:55 when Boston College and Clemson tee off. NC State begins play on hole No. 1 at 12:45 p.m.
