RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, Gopack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Michael Camper from the men's swimming and diving team to get to know more about who he is.
A senior from Fredricksburg, Va., Camper will gradutate in May with a sport management major and business administration minor. A captain for the 2014-15 season, he holds the third-fastest times in program history in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM and the fourth-fastest in the 100 back.
As a sophomore, Camper earned All-America honors in the 400 medley relay and tabbed All-ACC honors in the event.
Someone on the team that motivates him to work his hardest: "It's hard to pick just one person, but I would have to say John Newell. He is very vocal and encouraging to everyone on the team. He makes you want to work as hard as you can."
What he likes to do when he's not in class or practicing:"Relax! Between all the practices and classwork, it is nice just to be able to relax and have time to yourself."
His favorite meet he has competed in at NC State: "I would have to say my senior meet this year versus UNC-Chapel Hill. With it being my last meet swimming with my teammates and coaches, it definitely had a lot of meaning to me."
His favorite event to compete in: "The 200 backstroke. I have done that event almost my whole swimming career."
His plans after graduation in May: "I plan on continuing to work in the swimming field and become a swim coach."
If he could be anyone else for a day: "I would switch places with Michael Jordan for a day. Being an owner of a basketball team and being one of the most famous people in the world would be fun."
If he could play another sport at NC State: "I would say football. I love watching the sport and going outside and throwing around the pigskin."
His favorite memory in college: "Winning ACCs is my best memory. This team has come a long way in four years and it was great to see all of our team's hard work had paid off."
An athlete he idolized growing up: "Kevin Garnett. My teammates know I am a huge KG fan. He was one of those athletes that was tough as nails. He didn't back down from any challenge and was a great leader."
How he wants people at NC State to remember him: "I want people to remember that I was a person that put the team above myself. Being fast is one thing but being a great teammate and pushing others is what really matters to me."
His favorite song to listen to before he races: "Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes."
