RALEIGH, N.C.- Recently, Gopack.com had the opportunity to catch up with Katelyn Linker from the women's swimming and diving team to get to know more about who she is.
A senior from Cary, N.C., she will graduate in May with a major in biological sciences (human biology) and minor in genetics. She holds two top-10 all time marks in the women's record book.
Her favorite event to compete in: "Probably the 400 IM, as strange as that sounds. I've always enjoyed training IM because of the variety, and that's an event that I've been able to progress in throughout my collegiate career."
Her plans after graduatuon: "I will start the ABSN nursing program at ECU in the summer 2015. I plan to be a nurse practitioner."
If she could be anyone else for a day: "I'd like to switch places with the coaches for a day! It'd be hilarious to see them try to do one of our practices."
If she could another sport at NC State: "Probably volleyball. I liked it a lot in middle and high school, and my cousins play volleyball competitively. I think it'd be fun."
What is your favorite memory in college: "I have so many! Senior meet was a special day for sure. I got to spend that day with the rest of my class and celebrate all of our hard work. It was so great to have all of our family and friends there to support us"
Her favorite place to visit: "The beach. I've gone to the beach with my family every summer, and I've visited with my friends several times in college. No matter where it is, I have many fun memories of the beach with so many different people."
An athlete she idolized growing up: "Natalie Coughlin. When I was growing up in the sport, there weren't many "big name" American females in the sport. Men like Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte won all the time, but Natalie Coughlin was one of very few American women who stayed at the top for a very long time."
One thing she loves about being a student-athelte at NC State: "I love all the support we get from so many different people, including weight staff, nutritionists, advisors, alumni and other student athletes. It's a great network and you're never without the help you need to succeed."
Her favorite meet she has swam in college: "In college, this past ACCs was my favorite meet. I didn't make the ACC team the past two years, so it was very special to me to be at that meet and go best times to end my college career. It felt like three years of hard work finally paid off. It was great to spend my last meet that I'd been working towards for a long time with my team."
