NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- For the first time in the history of the NC State softball program, two players were selected in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) College Draft. Seniors Renada Davis and Emily Weiman were both chosen in the 2015 edition, held Wednesday night inside the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Davis, a native of Tomball, Texas, was selected by her home state team the Dallas Charge with the 16th overall pick in the draft and first pick of the fourth round. Weiman was chosen by the Pennsylvania Rebellion in the fifth round with the 22nd overall pick.
The selections come as just the second and third draft picks in program history, as Abbie Sims was drafted in the 2007 NPF College Draft by the Rockford Thunder (Now Disbanded) with the first pick in the third round or the 16th overall selection.
NC State was one of just five schools to have multiple selections in the draft, as Auburn, California-Berkeley, Florida State, Oklahoma and UCLA were the others.
Davis is a three-time All-ACC selection, claiming first team honors as a freshman and sophomore, along with second team honors as a junior. She was also tabbed the ACC Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2012. The senior shortstop owns the program record for career home runs (56) and most home runs in a single season (26) to name a few of her accolades.
In the circle, Weiman has been a workhouse for the Wolfpack and has garnered consecutive All-ACC first team selections in 2013 and 2014. She was named the ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2013 -- the first Wolfpack pitcher to receive the honor. Weiman recently broke the school record for career wins (93) and also owns the program mark for most wins in a single season with 33 to highlight a few of her accomplishments.
