Wolfpack Diving Completes Day One of Zone B Championships

ATHENS, Ga.- The NC State diving team completed its first day of the NCAA Zone B Championships, hosted by Georgia inside Gabrielsen Natatorium. Harrison Mitchell competed in the men's one-meter competition while Rachel Mumma represented the Pack in the women's three-meter dive.

"Today was a good day for NC State diving. Harrison dove this morning and used today as an opportunity to learn what it's going to take be able to advance to the finals session and qualify for NCAAs. We have a very deep zone and therefore we are competing against some of the top teams in the country. For Harrison to see it first hand it was very valuable.

Day One Recap
In the men's one-meter dive, Mitchellposted a score of 250.60 to finish 25th in the standings.
In the women's three-meter competition, Mumma notched a 276.50 in the preliminary round to finish 15th and advance to the finals session. In the finals, shemoved up three spots to finish 12th in the overall standings, charting a 295.10 to earn a total score of 571.60.
With her top-12 finish, Mumma has is eligible to compete at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, in the event she earns a qualifying spot in the one-meter or platform events.
With the new qualification standards, if a diver qualifies for the national championships in one event and finishes in the top-12 in the other two events, he/she can compete in any of the three at NCAAs.
Up Next
NC State will resume competition Tuesday morning at the Zone B Championships. The women's one-meter prelims and finals will begin at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., while the men's three-meter prelims and finals will begin at 3:30 and 5:45 p.m., in respective order.
