Mumma Qualifies for NCAA Championships at Diving Zones

ATHENS, Ga.- Thanks to a fifth-place finish in the women's one-meter diving event at the Zone B Championships, Rachel Mumma of the NC State diving team has garnered her invitation the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.

"Rachel had a great performance on the one-meter today. She did what she had to do to qualify for NCAAs. She followed the game plan which was to advance to the finals and she managed to hold on to qualify. We're very proud of her to making it back to the national championship.

Day Two Highlights
In the preliminary round, Mumma earned a score of 291.50 to finish fifth in the one-meter dive and advance to the finals. She managed to hold on to her fifth-place spot by notching a 293.05 in the finals session for a total of 584.55.
In the women's one-meter event, the top 10 finishers advance to the national championships, held in Greensboro, N.C., on March 19-21.
With her bid in the one-meter and 12th-place finish on Monday in the three-meter competition, Mumma has the potential to compete in both events under the new qualification standards.
Under the new qualification standards, any eligible diver can compete in any of the three diving events at NCAAs, provided he/she earns one of the invitation spots and places top-12 in the other two events at that Zone.
In the men's three-meter competition, Harrison Mitchell posted a score of 257.25 to finish 28th in the overall standings.

NC State will continue competition at the Zone B Championships, hosted by Georgia inside the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Day three will begin with the women's platform prelims at 10:00 and finals at 11:45 a.m., followed by the men's platform prelims and finals at 2:15 and 4:00 p.m., in respective order.
