NC State Men's Swimming Primed for ACC Championship

RALEIGH, N.C.- Coming off of an undefeated regular season, the No. 7 NC State men’s swimming team is primed to take on the tough competition that awaits them at the ACC Men’s Swimming Championship.
Georgia Tech will play host to the four-day event in Atlanta on Feb. 25-28. Each day will consist of a preliminary session at 10 a.m., followed by a finals session at 6 p.m.
The finals sessions on days two through four of the championship will be streamed live on ESPN3.
Last Time Out
The team defeated Tobacco Road rival UNC-Chapel Hill in its final meet of the regular season. The Wolfpack earned 180 points while the Tar Heels notched 118 points.
The NC State men earned 11 pool records, while Anton Ipsen broke his school record in the 1,000 freestyle.
Wolfpack in the National Rankings
The men will enter the conference championship listed at No. 7 in the latest CSCAA rankings, released Feb. 23.
Simonas Bilis has the fourth-fastest time in the country in the men’s 50 free, with a time of 19.28, while Anton Ipsen owns the No. 19 and 20 marks in the country in the 1,650 and 500 free, respectively, with times of 15:01.52 and 4:18.70.
In addition to the Wolfpack’s individual top times in the country, NC State owns the 12th and 13th-fastest times in the 200 and 400 free relays with times of 1:18.58 and 2:53.73, in respective order. Both times were set in the last two weeks of competition during the Pack’s season.
Scouting the Conference
Along with NC State, four more teams are listed among the top 25 of the CSCAA polls. Behind the seventh-ranked Wolfpack is No. 10 Louisville, No. 15 UNC-Chapel Hill, No. 17 Virginia Tech and No. 25 Virginia. Florida State is receiving votes in the latest poll.
Over the 2014-15 season, the Pack has accumulated a perfect 6-0 record against ACC competition. NC State defeated Florida State and Georgia Tech in a tri-meet, Duke and the UNC-CH at the Nike Cup, and Virginia and Tar Heels again in dual meets.
