RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State track and field team will participate this weekend in the final competition before ACC Indoor Championships. The throwers will travel to Blacksburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Challenge, while a few sprinters and distance runners will go to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the UCS Invitational.
The majority of sprinters, jumpers and runners will stay home and train in preparation for the upcoming conference championships.
The competing athletes will seek out conference and national qualifying marks.
UCS Invitational:
A portion of distance runners and sprinters are making the trip to the JLD fast track for the third time this season. The meet will serve as a chance for the distance medley relay (DMR) teams to earn qualifying marks as well as give some athletes the opportunity to race before the indoor season ends.
Virginia Tech Challenge:
The throwers will travel to Rector Fieldhouse. In the weight throw, Nicole Chavis currently ranks 15th in the national polls, however since no mark is guaranteed until all qualifying competitions are over, she will look to improve on her distance and move up in the standings.
The meet will also be an opportunity for the throwers to throw at the same location of ACC Indoor Championships
Last Time Out:
The Wolfpack split up to compete in high-profile meets across the country. At the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, the team of Megan Rempel, Tiana Patillo, Bella Smith and Samantha George broke the DMR school record, finishing in 11:30.17, while a few other athletes earned ACC qualifying marks in a variety of events.
At the Don Kirby Open and Elite, several NC State jumpers and sprinters set new season-high marks.
In New York, Graham Crawford and Jacob Thomson represented NC State at the prestigious Millrose Games. A strong kick helped Crawford pick up a fifth-place finish, while Thompson finished eighth.
