Wolfpack suffers first loss to Eagles in its last eight meetings
CHESNUT HILL, Mass. – The NC State volleyball team had a tough night offensively against the Boston College Eagles and dropped a 3-1 (26-24, 20-25, 25-12, 25-15) decision inside Power Gym.
The Wolfpack falls to 14-11 and 3-10 in ACC play, while the Eagles improve to 11-14 and 3-10 in league action.
Worth Noting
- With the win, Boston College snapped a streak of seven consecutive losses against the Wolfpack.
- It was the first loss versus the Eagles in head coach Bryan Bunn's tenure, as the sixth-year coach is now 7-1 against BC.
- The young NC State squad finished the match with just two fewer kills (54-52) than Boston College despite dropping the match.
Match Rewind
- NC State lost a very tightly contested first set, as the score was knotted 14 times and the lead changed four times. Tied 14-14, Boston College scored three consecutive points to take a 17-14 advantage.
- Senior Morgan Cormier put down a kill to give the Pack set point, 24-23, but the Eagles fought it off with three unanswered points to win the first set, 26-24.
- Leading 9-8 in the second set, NC State won seven of the next 10 points to take a 16-11 advantage in the frame. Boston College rallied to trim the lead to two, but the Wolfpack called a timeout to halt the run.
- After a kill by sophomore Perry Ramsey gave the Pack a 23-19 lead, classmate Kaitlyn Kearney swatted consecutive kills to lift NC State to the 25-20 second-set win.
- The Wolfpack recorded an attacking percentage of .387 in the set, while limiting the Eagles to a .226 clip.
- Boston College's offense was on fire in the third frame and NC State struggled offensively, resulting in a 25-12 third-set win for the Eagles.
- NC State started slow in the fourth set, as Boston College raced out to a 10-6 advantage forcing a Wolfpack timeout. After trimming the deficit to 15-13, the Eagles reeled off eight consecutive points to take control of the frame and went on to win it, 25-15, and the overall match, 3-1.
Top Performers
- Sophomore Julia Brown led the Wolfpack offensively with 15 kills, while freshman Blayke Hranicka put down 12. Brown tallied a .314 attacking percentage and Hranicka had a .304 clip.
- Maggie Speaks dished out a match-high 34 assists on the night and also collected 11 digs to register her sixth double-double of the year.
- Defensively, junior libero Rachel Eppley led all players with 17 digs.

NC State will make the trip to Syracuse for its next match Sunday afternoon. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. inside the Women's Building.
