
Three Advance on Day One at USTA Clay Court Invitational

Three from the women's tennis team advanced to the next round of singles play on the first day of play at the USTA Clay Court Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. - Three from the NC State women's tennis team advanced to singles play in the round of 16 after day one of competition at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Clay Court Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Joanna Nalborska, Tayla Stenta and Martina Frantova each earned victories in their first round singles match-ups on Thursday. Nalborska defeated Breana Stampfli of FGCU 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Stenta netted a 3-6 6-4, 6-2 win over Hannah Fluhrer of UNF.
Frantova collected a 7-5, 6-4 win over No. 37 Kennedy Schaffer of No. 5 UGA who is also the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Schaffer was the highest ranked player from the highest ranked program Frantova had faced this fall. It also lifted her fall singles record to 13-3.
Another Wolfpack player with a weighted match on her hands is No. 116 Nalborska who is set to face off against No. 5 Josie Kuhlman of Florida, the No. 5 nationally ranked team. Kuhlman is also the No. 1 seed in the tournament and is Nalborska's highest ranked opponent this season.
The Pack will continue play at the USTA Clay Court Invitational Friday at 8 a.m. with round of 16 singles play at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Kissimmee, Fla., with quarterfinals and first round consolation competition to follow. Doubles matches in the round of 16 are scheduled for later in the evening at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
