LYNCHBURG, Va. – The NC State women's basketball team (4-0) picked up its fourth straight victory on Friday evening, snapping Liberty's 13-game home winning streak with a 61-53 win. The victory marked NC State's fifth straight 4-0 start to a season.
After taking a 28-15 halftime lead, the Wolfpack showed significant heart in withstanding a strong third quarter from the Lady Flames during which the hosts pulled within three points (38-35). NC State was clutch down the stretch, shooting 12-14 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
The Wolfpack was led in scoring by Dominique Wilson's game-high 18 points on 7-19 shooting. She was joined in double figures by Miah Spencer (17 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four steals) and Jennifer Mathurin 15 points and six rebounds). Despite being out-rebounded for the first time this season (47-44), the Wolfpack forced 14 turnovers (committing just nine) and scored 18 points off those Liberty miscues.
"We talked about before the game, just finding some way to bite your lip and gritting your teeth and for two hours trying to put in the back of your mind of some of the things which have happened," NC State head coach Wes Moore said. "I'm really proud of this team. We didn't shoot the ball well and it wasn't always pretty, but we just hung in there."

State pulled down one more rebound (25-24) than the Lady Flames and scored 12 points from nine Liberty turnovers.
The Lady Flames battled back, pulling within three (38-35) at the end of the third quarter. Liberty (2-1) had two three-point attempts to tie the game early in the fourth, but both rimmed out and the Pack scored 10 of the next 12 points to take a commanding 48-37 lead with 6:47 remaining. The Lady Flames again pulled within three points (50-47 with 3:13 remaining), but four straight free throws by Spencer and Carlee Schuhmacher and a three by Mathurin put the game out of reach for good.
NC State returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 22 against Davidson. The game will be played at Broughton High School's Holliday Gymnasium and will tip off at 2 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring canned food and other household items for donation as a part of NC State's involvement in the Harris Teeter Million Meals Challenge.
