NC State men's soccer dropped a 4-1 decision on Friday to No. 3 Clemson
| Season Stats
No. 24 NC State men's soccer suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of No. 3 Clemson on Friday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
"Soccer's a cruel game," said NC State head coach Kelly Findley. "I thought we were pretty good in the first half. To be down 3-0, I was honestly shocked. We had a breakaway, flashed a couple shots across the box. We should have scored and didn't."
Despite the outcome, the Wolfpack (8-5-3, 1-4-3 ACC) secured its spot in next week's ACC Tournament thanks to a Duke win over Virginia Tech.
Clemson (14-1-2, 6-1-1) started the scoring in the 28th minute, adding a second in the 34th. A foul near the top of the State box in the 42nd produced a penalty kick that resulted in a third.
NC State broke through in the 77th minute when Ryan Peterson dished a centering pass to Philip Carmon, who tucked his second goal of the year inside the right post, setting the final margin at 4-1.
"We're playing well, it's been a bizarre set of circumstances that's put us in this position," said Findley. "The last thing we can do is feel sorry for ourselves or get frustrated. We have to keep doing our thing. We have the seniors and leaders on this team that want to win. They'll work hard."
Seniors Philip Carmon, Holden Fender, Alex McCauley, Reed Norton, and Seth Poole were honored pregame.
The Pack returns to action on Wednesday, November 4 at Syracuse for the first round of the ACC Tournament.
