RALEIGH – Prior to its 7 p.m. home match on Thursday, Oct. 22 against nationally-ranked Clemson, the NC State women's soccer team will honor two past greats: Charmaine Hooper and the late Robin Morlock.
Charmaine Hooper
A 2014 inductee to the NC State Athletics Hall of Fame, Hooper (1987-90) sits atop the NC State record book in multiple categories. The Wolfpack's all-time leader in points (145), goals (58), and shots (349), Hooper played a large role in the most successful period of the program's history. During her four seasons in Raleigh, the Wolfpack won 65 matches, one Atlantic Coast Conference title, and made four NCAA Tournament appearances. Her 1988 squad advanced all the way to the championship game of the NCAA Tournament.
Following her time at NC State, Hooper would go on to do great things both with professional club teams and the Canadian National Team. The prolific striker excelled playing in professional leagues in Norway, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
Her success with the Canadian National Team is nearly unmatched. Hooper scored 71 goals in 129 career appearances, ranking second and fourth, respectively, all-time. She played for Canada in three FIFA World Cups (1995, 99, and 2003) and scored the match-winning goal during the quarterfinal round against China in 2003, helping Canada earn its best-ever finish (4th) at a World Cup.
For her tremendous contributions to Canadian soccer, Hooper was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame during the summer of 2012. This came ten years after she was inducted into the United Soccer League's Women's Hall of Fame.
Robin Morlock
A fixture on the Wolfpack roster from 1993-96, Robin Morlock had a successful career in the Red and White. Morlock's teams, under the guidance of head coaches Larry Gross and Alvin Corneal, won 50 matches and advanced to three NCAA Tournaments, progressing as far as the quarterfinal round in 1995.
Morlock finished her Wolfpack career with eight goals and five assists.
Tragically, she passed away in June of 1998 as a passenger involved in an auto accident. She was 23 years old. Robin's parents, Linda and Fred Morlock, will be present on her behalf.
