No. 21 NC State men's soccer used goals from Julius Duchscherer and Zach Knudson to get past Appalachian State, 2-1 on Monday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
The Wolfpack (8-3-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute on Duchscherer's fourth score of the year. Travis Wannemuehler earned the assist, finding Duchscherer on the right side for a shot pasted into the top left corner of the Mountaineer goal.
Alex McCauley turned in a pair of saves, including an acrobatic leap in the 17th minute, getting just enough of his left hand on an App State shot to send it clear of the frame.
Caleb Duvernay dished to Knudson in the 59th minute for his sixth goal of the season. A pass forward into traffic inside the Mountaineer box made its way to Knudson, who neatly deposited his one-on-one chance with the keeper.
Holding a 2-0 advantage, that Pack defense finally endured a miscue in the 88th minute, when App's late goal trimmed the lead in half, setting the final margin.
NC State returns to action Friday, October 23 at Syracuse for a 7 PM kickoff. Fans can follow along with Twitter updates via @PackMensSoccer or live stats on GoPack.com.
