Volleyball Welcomes a Pair of Sunshine State Opponents

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State women's volleyball team will complete a six-match home stand this weekend when a pair of opponents from the Sunshine State visits Raleigh. The Wolfpack will play Miami at 7:30 p.m. Friday and No. 18 Florida State at 1 p.m. Sunday inside Holliday Gym at Broughton High School.

The Pack enters the weekend with a 12-6 overall record and a 1-5 mark against ACC opponents. Miami is 11-5 and 4-2 in conference play, while 18th-ranked Florida State is 13-4 and 6-0 in ACC action.

Match Promotions
Friday – The final set of the volleyball team trading cards will be available while supplies last, featuring the upperclassmen.
Sunday – The contest will be the annual Kay Yow Pink Match presented by Rex Healthcare. Pink koozies will be available for the. Also, all Breast Cancer survivors in attendance for Sunday's match are encouraged to participate in an on-court celebration following the second set.

In its last outing of the season, NC State dropped a 3-0 decision against Virginia despite playing the Cavaliers very tight in all three sets.

Serving Up ACES
NC State continues to lead the ACC and remain ranked among the NCAA in service aces. The Wolfpack has tallied 1.73 aces per set, which ranks 15th in the nation and leads the conference.

Senior Morgan Cormier is second in the league with 0.49 aces per set to occupy 11th in the NCAA.

The Wolfpack ranks second in the ACC and 28th in the NCAA this season with 180.5 blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Kaitlyn Kearney is tied for third in the conference with 87 blocks and tied for 31st in the NCAA.

Freshman Blayke Hranicka is fifth in the ACC with 84 blocks, which is 41st in the NCAA.

Lucky Number Three
In 18 matches played this season, NC State has only lost the third set four times. The Wolfpack is outscoring opponents, 439-344 in the frame, the greatest differential in any set.

Scouting Miami
The Miami Hurricanes are currently tied for fifth in the ACC with a 4-2 mark against league foes and an 11-5 overall record. The Hurricanes were also in North Carolina last weekend, as the squad defeated Wake Forest, 3-1, and earned a tough 3-2 victory at Duke.

Last season, Miami and NC State only met once with the Canes earning a 3-0 win.

Olga Strantzali leads the team offensively with 218 kills, an average of 3.35 kills per set while Taylor Scott is second on the squad with 3.18 kps. At the setter position, Haley Templeton has dished out 10.38 assists per set and libero Kalysta White has collected 3.59 digs per set.

As a team, Miami has a hitting percentage of .236 and has held opponents to a .206 clip.

Florida State has enjoyed a very successful season to this point and is currently one of two ACC programs ranked among the top 25. FSU is No. 18 and Louisville is No. 25. In the Seminoles last outing, they defeated Wake Forest, 3-0.

Last season, the Wolfpack took an early 1-0 lead on the Seminoles, but FSU rebounded to win the match, 3-1.

Nicole Walch headlines the Noles offensive attack with 3.84 kills per set. Brianne Burkert and Hailey Luke have split time at the setter position with the former handing out 4.96 aps and the latter 5.70. Defensively, libero Cecile Woie has a team-leading 3.35 digs per set.

Collectively, FSU has an attacking percentage of .273 and opponents have been limited to a .183 clip.
