SPIRIT INTERNATIONAL RESULTS
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - NC State's Rachael Taylor, a Scotland native, represented her country this week in the Spirit International at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Texas. The coed team event featured 20 nations, with Team Scotland tying for 10th place.
Taylor and Jessica Meek, who is a junior at Missouri, combined to score 12-under par, good for a 10th-place tie among women's teams. The Scottish duo of Ewen Ferguson and Grant Forrest combined to shoot 10-under. Overall, Team Scotland's 22-under par mark tied Japan and Belgium for 10th place.Â
"I thought I played well, but the greens were fast and tough to read. It was a great challenge," Taylor said. "We had a lot of putts lip out, but that's golf. I had a great experience and the tournament itself was amazing. Playing a tournament like this makes you realize how much you want those putts to drop and makes you hungry for more."
During the weeklong stay, Taylor and the other players in the field were hosted at Camp Olympia, a private overnight camp that kept the players entertained and social in a similar fashion to the Olympic Village.
"We were looked after well at Camp Olympia. It was a great way to make new friends and see fellow college golfers," Taylor said.Â
Taylor, who was NC State's leading scorer last year with a 74.73 average, now returns to the Wolfpack for the team's final fall event. The Pack will compete in the Landfall Tradition Oct. 23-25 in Wilmington, N.C.
