Men’s Tennis Set for ITA Carolina Regional

Competition is set for Friday-Tuesday
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team is set to continue its fall season with the ITA Carolina Regional at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., The tournament features top athletes from North and South Carolina, and will run Friday through Tuesday.
Nick Horton, Simon Norenius, Ian Dempster and Shoti Meparidze will compete in the tournament.
Pack in the Polls:
Norenius is the lone Wolfpacker in the singles rankings, checking in at 71st. The Swede has been a mainstay in the rankings, holding a spot in the ITA's top 125 since the start of the 2014-15 spring season.
In doubles, Dempster and Horton are ranked 41st in the first poll of the year. Dempster was ranked all of last year with former Pack men's tennis standout Robbie Mudge, while Horton enters the doubles rankings for the first time.
Scouting the Competition:
Nine singles players and five doubles teams are ranked. In singles rankings, four of the ranked singles players are listed among the top 15 in the nation. Another key player to watch will be Alexandre Favrot of Clemson, who is ranked ninth in the Oracle/ITA Newcomer rankings.
Last Year's Progress:
At last year's competition, Dempster and Mudge won the doubles championships to earn a spot at the ITA Indoor National Championships. The duo defeated four other teams and fought off two match points in the final to win the title.
Last Time Out:
Nick Horton and Simon Norenius traveled to Mansfield, Texas, and Tulsa Okla., for their respective tournaments last week. Horton made his way to the final round of qualifying at the ITF Futures of Mansfield tournament, while Norenius advanced to the second round of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships.
