RALEIGH, N.C.- Former NC State swimmer David McIntyre died Sunday January 4th, 2015 in Florida. During his time at NC State McIntyre was a three time All American in 1956-58, as well as a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
McIntyre was a member of the graduating class of 1958. After graduating from NC State he went on to coach at the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, as well as coaching some Olympic swimmers during the 1960’s.
“We are saddened as a Wolfpack family with the loss of David Macintyre, former all American and ACC champion and a member of some of the best NC State squads to roam the pool. As a family we mourn his loss but we also celebrate him and what he did for NC State up until his death,” said head swimming and diving coach Braden Holloway.
“He’s been a great supporter, reaching out to our program many times and we wish his family well as we celebrate his name and the Wolfpack swimming and diving family.”
