Wolfpack Track & Field Headed To VT Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. - On Friday, Jan. 16 the NC State track teams heads to Blacksburg, Va., for the Virginia Tech Invitational. Along with host Virginia Tech, the Wolfpack will compete against twelve other teams from the states of Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina during the two-day meet.
The first event is slated to begin at 5 p.m. at Rector Fieldhouse. This is a two day meet which will feature over 30 Wolfpack student-athletes.
The Competition
Virginia, Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina A&T, Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern, George Mason, Charlotte, St. Augustine, Radford and NC Central are also competing at the meet.
The 21st-ranked women's team from Clemson highlights the team rankings while a host of individuals from the competing teams are also ranked in the current USTFCCCA polls.
The Wolfpack Report
The goal for NC State this weekend is to gain qualifying marks for the ACC Indoor Championships.
On the women's side, the Wolfpack will look to continue to gain strong performances from its two All-Americans throwers Nicole Chavis and SeQuoia Watkins. Both will compete this weekend in the weight throw.
Chavis has won all three weight throw events she has competed in this season. Her performance has also earned her ACC Women's Indoor Field Performer of the Week. Watkins has competed in six events this season finishing no lower than third.
In sprints, Paisley Simmons will also look to continue her string of top-five finishes, while Alexis Perry is competing in the 60m hurdles as she looks to continue her strong form which included a personal best in last weekend's 60m dash and a first-place finish in the 60m hurdles.
Highlighting events for the men is Jonathan Addison, who has two first-place finishes in the 60m dash. He will compete again on Friday. Quashawn Cunningham is also coming off of first-place honors. This weekend he will race in the 60m dash and the 200m run.
In mid-distance, Jon Knight has a first-place finish in the mile and the 800m while Clay Jones has two top-three finishes on the season. Both will be in back in action for the 1000m run.
The Pack's multi-event specialist Grant Rivers will also compete. This season he has competed in events ranging from the 3000m to the shot put. This weekend he is slated to compete in six different events.
Rector Field House
The Wolfpack will be able to become familiar, and gain some valuable experience competing in Rector Fieldhouse this weekend. The venue will play host to five meets that NC State is scheduled to compete in, including the ACC Indoor Championships in February.
