Wolfpack Improves Two Spots at Collegiate Challenge Cup

NASHVILLE – The NC State men’s golf team improved two spots in the standings on Saturday at the 2014 DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup. State shot its best score—a 288—on the final day of the stroke play portion of the tournament to finish in ninth place.
The Wolfpack’s 288 (+4) was a four-stroke improvement from its best round on Friday.
Carter Page carded the best round of the day for NC State, hitting a 69 (-2) to end the competition with a three-round score of 221 (+8). Stanhope Johnson and James Chapman shot State’s second best rounds of the day, each finishing the course with one-over-par scores of 72. Chapman recorded his second eagle of the tournament on Saturday, shooting a three on the par-five fifth hole.
Page would end the stroke play portion of the tournament tied for 29th place while Johnson and Chapman finished tied for 46th and 51st, respectively.
David Cooke and Jacob McBride were State’s second and third finishers at the tournament. Cooke shot a 79 on Saturday to end with a three-round score of 222 (+9, T33) while McBride carded a 75 to accumulate a score of 224 (+11, T39).
Sunday will consist of an 18-hole match play conference finale, pitting the teams in each league against each other to play for “Top Conference” honors.
