RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will compete in eight exhibition games this fall and host six of those contests, head coach Shawn Rychcik announced on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack opens the fall schedule by traveling to Farmville, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 18 for a doubleheader against the Longwood Lancers. The first contest is slated for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow.
State will have the pleasure of playing its remaining six games on its home field at Dail Softball Stadium. The Campbell Camels visit Raleigh on Sunday, Oct. 19 for a twin bill starting at 1 p.m.
The following weekend, the Pack will conclude fall play with a doubleheader against Elon on Friday (Oct. 24) and two games versus Pitt Community College on Saturday (Oct. 25). Friday’s games are set to begin at 5 and 7 p.m., while Saturday’s contests are slated for noon and 2 p.m.
Last season, NC State finished the season with a 36-18 record, including a 16-8 mark in ACC play. State advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season under Rychcik’s direction and made history by becoming the first team from the state of North Carolina to win the first two games of an NCAA Regional, advancing to the final without a loss.
NC State was also the first team since 2005 to defeat a top-four national seed before a regional final with the Wolfpack’s 5-4 win against fourth-seeded Georgia.
The squad welcomes five newcomers to the team, while five seniors departed due to graduation or exhausted eligibility.
