Track & Field Prepped for Virginia Challenge

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track and field team will send 28 student-athletes to compete in the Virginia Challenge, this Friday and Saturday, May 9-10 at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va.
The meet, which is in its third year, will feature such current and former Olympians as Lolo Jones and Queen Harrison, as well as many top programs from the ACC, including Duke, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, UNC and host Virginia.
The Wolfpack is coming off a solid showing in the Payton Jordan Invitational last Sunday, May 4 in Stanford, Calif. in which 12 distance runners competed for State. This week, the Pack will expand to include throwers and sprinters as NC State student-athletes are looking to qualify for the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Fla. set for May 29-31.
The Wolfpack women’s team comes into the meet as the No. 23 ranked team in the NCAA, marking the second straight week the Pack has been among the nation’s top 25. State also has eight student-athletes ranked among the nation’s top 28 in 12 individual events so far through the outdoor season.
Friday's schedule starts at 2 p.m. with the start of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. Field events will also begin at 2 p.m. and running events will start at 5 p.m. Saturday's schedule starts at 1 p.m. with the conclusion of the decathlon and heptathlon. Field and running events begin at 4 p.m.
