RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track & field team will send 18 student-athletes to compete in the 2014 NCAA East Regional this Thursday through Saturday, May 29-31 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
The top 12 finishers in each individual and relay event will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
The 18 Wolfpack preliminary competitors will participate in 15 events at the NCAA East Regional, including five first-time qualifiers in Ryanna Henderson (women’s 1,500m), Megan Moye (women’s 1,500), Erika Kemp (5,000m), Nicole Chavis (discus) and Jonathan Addison (high jump, long jump).
NC State seniors Emily Pritt (1,500m), Erin Mercer (3,000m steeplechase), Samantha Norman (3,000m steeplechase), Elizabeth Shuman (high jump), Andrew Colley (5,000m), Matt Sonnenfeldt (5,000m) and Nathaniel Williams (discus) will be taking part in their final NCAA Regional meet for the Pack.
State has seven student-athletes ranked in the top 10 in their respective event in the NCAA East Regional, including Tremanisha Taylor who sits at No. 1 in the shot put and No. 6 in the discus. Alexis Perry is ranked No. 4 in the long jump, while SeQuoia Watkins holds down the No. 4 ranking in the discus.
On the track, Colley ranks No. 5 overall in the 5,000m, while Graham Crawford is No. 6 in the 1,500m and No. 7 in the 5,000m. Joanna Thompson comes in at No. 9 in the 10,000m.
The event is set to begin at noon with the men’s javelin and women’s hammer throw while track events will start at 4:30 with the men’s 400m hurdles. The competition continues on Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the men’s hammer throw and wraps up on Saturday, with events beginning at noon with the men’s pole vault and men’s discus.
