RALEIGH, N.C. - For the second consecutive season, the NC State softball team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolfpack will be the No. 2 seed in the Athens, Ga., regional and play third-seeded UAB on Friday, May 16 at 2:30 p.m.
Georgia is the host and top seed in the regional and will face Chattanooga in the second game of the day at 5:30 p.m.
Friday's contest will be the second meeting between NC State and UAB, as the Blazers won the first meeting 3-1 on March 17, 2012 in Lexington, Ky. The Wolfpack owns a 1-1 all-time ledger against Chattanooga and is 1-2 versus Georgia all-time.
The selection comes as the fourth for the program since it began in 2004. NC State won the ACC Championship in 2006 and 2013 to claim automatic bids to the tournament and earned at-large bids in 2007 and 2014.
State concluded the season by winning six of its last nine games and had a 14-game winning streak at one point in the season from Feb. 21 until March 11. The Wolfpack is 4-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
The Pack is led offensively by junior Renada Davis who leads the squad with a .374 batting average and a team-leading 17 home runs. Emily Weiman, also a junior, paces the pitching staff with a 28-13 record on the year and a 2.51 earned run average (ERA).
NC State is the only division I softball program from the state of North Carolina to earn a spot in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
