Swimming & Diving Places Nine on All-ACC Academic Team

RALEIGH, N.C. – Nine members of the NC State swimming & diving program have been named to the 2014 All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.
Jonathan Boffa, Andreas Schiellerup, Derek Hren and Adam Linker collected the accolade for the men’s squad, while Zina Grogg, Natalie Labonge, Alexia Zevnik, Lotta Nevalainen and Hannah Freyman earned the honor for the women’s team.
A senior from Verona, Italy, Boffa was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth consecutive year, as he is one of five student-athletes listed to garner the accolade all four seasons. This past season, Boffa collected All-American honors as a member of the 400-medley relay, as well as a member of the 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams.
Schiellerup, Hren and Linker each were listed for the first time in their respective careers as freshmen on the squad. In his first season, Schiellerup posted a school record in the 100 back with a time of 45.92. In addition, he finished as an All-American as a member of the 200 and 400-medley relay teams, as well as 400 freestyle relay.
The men’s squad ranked fourth in the conference for most members, finishing ahead of Georgia Tech, Duke, Florida State, Pitt, Miami and Boston College.
On the women’s side, Freyman earned the honor for the third consecutive season, as she was one of 12 members to be listed for three or more seasons. This past season, Freyman posted a school record in the 200 backstroke at the 2014 ACC Championships in Greensboro, N.C., with a time of 1:55.21.
Grogg, Labonge, Zevnik and Nevalainen were listed for the first time in their respective careers. Grogg concluded her senior season holding the school record in the 100 butterfly and is a member of the 200 and 400 medley teams that also hold the school record. She also owns a top-10 time in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. In addition, she claimed All-America honors in the 200 medley relay this season.
As a team, State finished tied for third for most representatives, along with North Carolina and Virginia Tech. The Pack had more members named to the squad than Duke, Miami Clemson, Georgia Tech and Pitt.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
