RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State strength coach Craig Sowers, who worked with the men’s and women’s swimming & diving program this season, received the 2014 NC State Awards for Excellence Chancellor's Unit Tuesday morning.
"We are very proud and thrilled for Craig,” said head coach Braden Holloway. “He has meant so much to not only the Swimming & Diving program, but for NC State athletics as a whole. Our student-athletes believe and trust Craig's guidance, knowledge and leadership to help them succeed and reach their highest peak. Without Craig, our accomplishments as a program would not be any where near as high."
The Awards for Excellence is program that honors state employees across North Carolina. At NC State, nominees are chosen from 16 colleges and units on campus. The athletics department is part of the Chancellor's Unit.
"Excellence fits the ethic and results that Craig achieves in our unit,” said Assistant AD/Director of Strength and Conditioning Bob Alejo. “As the ‘Chief of Staff’ for a 14 person unit, including myself, he provides a conduit between me and the staff that proves effective and necessary to achieve our department's strategic goal of becoming a Top 25 athletic department."
