Wolfpack Climbs Past Mountaineers, 85-60

RALEIGH - Led by a program record 16 made three-point field goals, the NC State women's basketball team (7-3) defeated Mount St. Mary's by a final score of 85-60 Saturday evening inside Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State was nearly unstoppable from three-point range, hitting 16-31 (.516) attempts. The Pack was 25-56 (.446) from the field in the win and also went 19-22 (.864) from the free throw line. State entered Saturday's game as the second best free throw shooting team in the nation.
The win was the third in NC State's last four games and improves the Wolfpack to 19-3 in home games under second-year head coach Wes Moore (590 career wins).
The Pack was led by stellar performances from Len'Nique Brown-Hoskin (23 points on 6-6 shooting from distance) and Jennifer Mathurin (21 points and eight rebounds). Sophomore Miah Spencer also chipped in with a career-high 10 assists. Spencer added six points to the scoring effort, surpassing 400 career points (405) in just her 43rd game.
Brown-Hoskin and Mathurin led the Pack out to a quick 15-2 lead, sinking five three-pointers in the first four minutes of the contest. NC State continued to increase its lead throughout the first half, eventually stretching the margin to 16 points (35-19) when Carlee Schuhmacher hit a jumper in the paint.
The Mountaineers would score 12 of the final 15 points of the first half to pull within seven (38-31) at the halftime break.
Though Mount St. Mary's (2-7) scored the first field goal of the second half, the Pack would record 20 of frame's first 27 points to pull out to a 20-point lead (58-38) with 10:37 to play. The Pack would twice stretch its lead to as many as 33 points before the game ultimately resulted in the 85-60 Wolfpack victory.
NC State fed off Mountaineer turnovers in the second stanza, scoring 19 points from 12 miscues. The Pack would end the game with 24 total points in this category.
NC State will return to action when it hosts Liberty on Dec. 17 inside Reynolds Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
