12/10/2014 12:00:00 AM | Track
NC State track and field has released the indoor and outdoor schedule for the 2014-15 season. The schedule provides challenging meets in locations across the country.
"The goal of the program always is to have conference champions and all-conference performers," head coach Rollie Geiger said.
"There are meets on the schedule to try and get qualifying marks. We will pick and choose competitions based on the best interest of the athlete. What may be best for a thrower in one competition may not be best for a middle distance runner. In track and field, it can be difficult having athletes all over the country, but at the end of the day, what is best for them is going to be best for NC State."
The Wolfpack kicked off the 2014-15 indoor season with a strong performance at the UNCG 6-Way Meet in Winston-Salem, N.C., earning nine first-place and five second-place finishes.
Up next, State will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the Gene Anderson Invitational. The following weekend, the team will head to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Invitational.
The Pack will visit Blacksburg, Va., five times during the indoor season. Along with proximity, Virginia Tech's Rector Field House offers quality. The bank-track design is unique in the United States and the track rates as one of the fastest in the country.
The facility also attracts quality opponents, which will provide strong competition for NC State this season.
On Jan. 30, the team will send student-athletes to two different meets. Part of the team will travel to New York to compete at the Armory Track Invitational. Another group will return to Winston-Salem, N.C., for the Hilton Garden Invite.
On Feb. 13, the team will split up again. Some will travel to Cleveland to compete in the Spire Invitational, while another portion of the team will go to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic.
The Pack will return to Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va., for the ACC Indoor Championships from Feb. 26-28.
The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Fayetteville, Ark., On March 13-14.
The Pack will kick off the outdoor season in Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Carolina Relays on March 20. The following weekend, NC State will host the Raleigh Relays - its first and only home meet of the season.
The Raleigh Relays is one of the largest meets in the nation. Last year's competition featured more than 4,000 athletes from college, high school, club and professional teams.
On April 3-4, the Wolfpack will send student-athletes to opposite sides of the country. Some will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays while another group will go to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational.
On April 23-25, the team will travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays. The following weekend, NC State will return to Palo Alto to compete in the Payton Jordan Invite.
The postseason begins with ACC Championships in Tallahassee, Fla., from May 14-16. NCAA Regionals are May 28-30 in Jacksonville, Fla. Following that, NCAA Championships are in Eugene, Ore., from June 10-13. The season concludes with USA Championships from June 26-28, which are also in Eugene, Ore.
NC State brings back Jonathan Addison who had a stellar 2013-14 track season. Addison finished as 2014 ACC Outdoor Champion in the long jump, 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championship Qualifier, and a member of the 2014 ACC All-Academic Team.
Also returning on the men's team is Graham Crawford. For the past two years, Crawford has earned All-ACC Outdoor honors in the 1,500m and qualified for the NCAA East Regional in the 1,500m and 5,000m.
On the women's side, All-Americans Nicole Chavis (weight throw) and SeQuoia Watkins (discus) are looking to build off of last year's success after earning All-ACC and All-American honors. En route to All-American status, Chavis earned six top-ten finishes and set the school record in the weight throw, while Watkins set the school record in the discus on two different occasions.
Additionally, 2014 All-ACC Indoor and Outdoor Team member Alexis Perry returns for her junior year after earning All-ACC honors in the 100m hurdles and setting the school record for the long jump.
