RALEIGH - The NC State men's basketball team limited Jacksonville to 23.2 percent field goal shooting en route to a 79-43 win over Jacksonville on Thursday night. The win lifted the Wolfpack to 3-0 on the year.
Caleb Martin led to the team with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Lennard Freeman added a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and BeeJay Anya set the school single-game record for blocks with 10.
After trailing 5-2 early in the game, the Wolfpack dominated play the rest of the night. NC State ripped off a 25-2 run over the next 13:26 and the Pack cruised from there. Caleb Martin scored 12 points and BeeJay Anya blocked five shots as NC State ran its halftime lead to 35-12. Anya continued to showcase his shot-blocking abilities and blocked five more shots in the second half. The Pack outscored Jacksonville in the second half 44-31.
Gott Said It: "I think the take away for me was that I thought we improved in some areas from the other night and we guarded the ball much better. We contained the ball but still put pressure on them. We didn't get beat off the dribble, which I thought we struggled with the other night. We improved there. I thought we rebounded the ball a lot better. In the first half, if we had made some shots around the rim and some foul shots we probably would have had 45-50 points. That was a bit of a negative. Overall it was a good win. It helps us build our team. I like the fact that we had a stretch in the first half with three freshmen on the floor together. Caleb, Cody and Malik (Abdul-Malik Abu) were all in and we played well. That was a good thing for our team. BeeJay obviously had a good night. He can become a presence for us inside. I'm happy he's beginning to step forward. We need that from him."
Up Next: NC State will host South Florida Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. That game will be televised on ESPNU. It's the first of three home games for the Wolfpack during the holiday week. Richmond and Boise State come to town around Thanksgiving Day.
