RALEIGH – The NC State men’s golf team returns home early this week for its second tournament of the fall season. Beginning on Monday, the Wolfpack will play host to 16 teams in the annual Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
The Wolfpack will field two teams at the event to have a total of 10 golfers.
Monday’s first round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m. The golfers will then play a second round with the same pairings later that afternoon. Tuesday will feature 18 holes of golf and will bring the 54-hole competition to an end.
The Lonnie Poole Golf Course (1509 Main Campus Drive. Raleigh, NC 27606) will play a par of 71 over 7,307 yards. As with Bethpage Black, Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, and Pine Valley, the course leans heavily on traditional Scottish designs while accommodating the natural landscape. Located on 250 acres inside the city of Raleigh, the golf course routing is dictated by large elevation changes. It meanders around large buffer areas that were left in place to protect streams and wetlands that are in the Neuse River watershed. The buffers provide protected a habitat for wildlife and native plant species. Erik Larsen and Brandon Johnson, both graduates of the NC State College of Design, were the lead architects.
State enters the tournament following an impressive 4-1 match play victory over Texas A&M of the Southeastern Conference. The Wolfpack victory was crucial in the Atlantic Coast Conference’s narrow victory over the SEC in the 2014 DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup.
