RALEIGH, N.C. - During his three-year tenure as NC State softball head coach, Shawn Rychcik and his staff have continued to strengthen the team's schedule each year. The 2015 schedule will be no different, as the squad will once again face a very difficult slate in nonconference and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play.
The Wolfpack's 2015 slate features 23 games against 12 programs that advanced to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. In addition, NC State will play a three-game series against 2014 National Champion (Florida) and a single game against the runner-up (Alabama).
"We set the schedule up every year to prepare us for the postseason and the NCAA Tournament," said Rychcik. "I think our non-conference schedule, combined with a really strong conference schedule will have us very prepared for the postseason."
The Wolfpack opens the season in the state of Louisiana, opening the year on Feb. 6 at 2014 WCWS participant Louisiana-Lafayette. In addition to a match-up with the Ragin' Cajuns, the Wolfpack will also face Central Arkansas the same day.
Before departing the state of Louisiana, the Pack will head east to Baton Rouge for a contest against Memphis and a two-game set with LSU on Feb. 7-8. The following weekend, NC State will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for three games against the Florida Gators with a game versus Iowa to be played prior to the second game against the Gators.
From Feb. 20-22, the Wolfpack will host its first tournament of the season, the Hyatt Place Challenge. Joining the Pack in the event, will be Colgate, Georgia Southern, North Dakota State, St. Francis and St. Joseph's with each team to play every team once.
NC State opens ACC play on Feb. 28 when it welcomes Syracuse to Raleigh for a three-game series. Notre Dame visits Dail Stadium March 7-8 for three games against the Wolfpack.
The second tournament the Pack will host this season, the Hyatt Place Invitational will be held from March 13-15. Binghamton, Fordham, Lipscomb, Longwood and Missouri headline the event.
State's first ACC road trip will be to Pittsburgh, followed by a trip to Atlanta, to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Florida State visits Dail Stadium, April 3-4, and UNC-Chapel Hill concludes the home schedule for the Wolfpack from April 18-19.
Other ACC road trips for the Pack this season include Virginia and Virginia Tech. NC State will play midweek games against UNCW, Elon, Campbell, UNCG, USC Upstate, Coastal Carolina and Alabama.
The 2015 ACC Championship will be held in Blacksburg, Va., from May 7-9 and hosted by Virginia Tech.
